When The Villages Regional Hospital opened in 2002, 300 volunteers appeared on our doorstep… and the number has been growing ever since. We now have over 450 volunteers serving 23 departments. They work in emergency, patient care, front desk, surgery waiting room, ICU, imaging transport, outpatient surgery desk, PACU, VACU, outside transport, pharmacy, dietary, gift shop, thrift shoppe and many other areas.
We have a committee for special events, which works to raise funds for a “wish List.” This includes many things that would improve services for the patients and lighten the work load for team members. All money raised is given back to the hospital. We recently purchased an EKG for the ER, Head Neck Coil Spine, and a Physician on Call. Scholarships to hospital team members for further education were also given.
Our many volunteers are a blessing and fill many of the hospital’s needs. They make our patients feel more comfortable and brighten the already beautiful environment we have here at The Villages Regional Hospital. It is our hope to ease the pressure on the dedicated team of physicians, nurses and techs who work so hard to bring comfort to everyone.
Considering becoming an auxilian? We are always looking for new volunteers. Applications are available in the Day Captain’s office located in the hospital. For further information on how to volunteer, please call (352) 751-8622.
