Physician of the Month – Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Health System

Recently, a surgical team from Central Florida Health Alliance traveled to Croix des Bouquets, Haiti to perform much needed surgical procedures. The team performed over 50 surgeries during the two-day period while they were at the mission. One morning at 6 a.m., they received a surprise knock at the door, bringing them a young pregnant woman in the midst of a very difficult delivery.

The baby was not positioned correctly for a normal delivery and Dr. Sustarsic took some heroic actions turning what looked to be a tragic event into a successful delivery of a 10 lb. baby girl. We have traveled on several trips to Haiti with the surgical team and there have been many first occurrences, however, this was the first delivery of a baby. Congratulations Dr. Sustarsic!
